Waukee students take part in the University of Northern Iowa’s UMETT program. UMETT is a summer program for students who may be interested in entering the teaching profession. It is dedicated to addressing the shortage of underrepresented minorities in the teaching field throughout the country and the state by exposing them to the profession. Participants have the opportunity to learn about the teaching profession and take part in field experiences with students in the Waterloo Community.
Congratulations to our Warrior of the Day, Mrs. Bechtum. Mrs. Bechtum is a chemistry teacher who enjoys spending time with her kids and cheering on the Cyclones. She was nominated by Jordan Kinney because "Mrs. Bechtum has a super big personality and she cares so much. She's genuinely passionate about the subject and she cares about every kid's growth and learning."
Congratulations to our Warrior of the Day, Jordan Kinney! Jordan is a junior at #WaukeeHS and is involved in theatre arts, show choir, the fall play, and several other activities. Her favorite quote is "Imagination will take you everywhere." Jordan was nominated by Mr. Jorgensen because, "You will never see Jordan without a smille. Jordan is not afraid to make loud mistakes in order to grow. I appreciate her commitment, energy, and genuine care for the people that she works with. She is an amazing role model for students and staff, alike."
Congratulations to our Warrior of the Day, Mr. Jorgensen! Mr. J is inspired to come to work every day by the people of Waukee High School. Outside of WHS, he enjoys participating in community theatre. He also directs, stage manages, and acts in several organizations in the metro area. One of his favorite quotes is "Isn't the world full of wonderful things?" from Hello, Dolly! Mr. Jorgensen was nominated by Riley Atwood because of his support and his model of kindness.
A huge thank you goes out to the Waukee Foundation for the grant they awarded to the Physical Education Department. We were able to add @fitlighttraining to our PE classes and can’t wait to continue to explore all the possibilities it will bring our students.
Congratulations to our Warrior of the Day, Riley Atwood! Riley loves #WaukeeHS because there are so many great people and it’s easy to make friends. Outside of school, she enjoys working with kids at her church. Her favorite book is Pride and Prejudice because it shows the consequences of miscommunication and the power of correcting that. Ms. Bibler nominated Riley for her energy, positivity, and her inspiring self confidence!
