To be selected to represent Waukee High School for The National Council on Youth Leadership (NCYL) is an extreme honor. Applicants are screened, and nominations are based on both faculty and community recommendations. All candidates are evaluated based on their leadership and strength of character.
The NCYL Youth Salute Conference at Drake is held in the fall. Those chosen attend this two-day conference and interact with peers from 21 other participating central Iowa schools. They will hear from well-known keynote speakers, as well as discuss topics that center around leadership and service. Their picture will be featured in a touring display around Central Iowa.
Following an interview process, scholarships winners are chosen from the entire pool of participants. Waukee High School has been fortunate to have several of our students receive these awards in recent years.
This year Waukee High School is limited to 22 nominations. Many of our students are deserving of this honor, but only 22 can be selected.
Those applying must have a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. Once the student qualifies, the scholarship is no longer a consideration in the process. This honor is focused on finding well-rounded individuals who rise to the top when called upon to serve and to lead.
