To be selected to represent Waukee High School for The National Council on Youth Leadership (NCYL) is an extreme honor.  Applicants are screened, and nominations are based on both faculty and community recommendations.  All candidates are evaluated based on their leadership and strength of character.

The NCYL Youth Salute Conference at Drake is held in the fall.  Those chosen attend this two-day conference and interact with peers from 21 other participating central Iowa schools.  They will hear from well-known keynote speakers, as well as discuss topics that center around leadership and service.  Their picture will be featured in a touring display around Central Iowa.

Following an interview process, scholarship winners are chosen from the entire pool of participants.  Waukee High School has been fortunate to have several of our students receive these awards in recent years.

Waukee High School may select 26 Junior students to participate in this great honor. Each applicant must have a minimum 3.0 GPA to be considered.  Beyond meeting the academic bar, students will be chosen based on their service and leadership in the school and community.
